Toubkal Adventure: Berber Culture at Heights in Morocco

The accommodation included in the adventure program will be as follows:

International transport Bucharest – Marrakech – Bucharest is provided by airplane, and the travel ticket is included in the program price. The budget allocated for the airplane ticket is a maximum of 250 Euros.

We land in Marrakech, the city that greets you with an explosion of colors, scents, and sounds. A comfortable transfer takes us to a 4**** riad hidden in the heart of the Medina, where walls decorated with traditional mosaics and courtyards filled with exotic plants offer us the first taste of Moroccan culture.

In the evening, you can relax or explore the labyrinthine streets, admiring the vibrant spectacle of Djemaa El Fna square, full of sounds, colors, and aromas.

After an energizing breakfast, we head south, leaving the hustle and bustle of Marrakech behind. The winding road takes us through the Moulay Brahim gorge and the upper valleys, offering the first views of the Atlas mountain range. We reach the starting point of the trek, Imi Oughlad (1450 m), where we meet our Berber team and their mules.

We begin the ascent on mule paths, passing through cornfields and forests of pine and juniper. At Tizi n’Tachete (2000 m), we stop to admire the panorama over the Imlil and Ait Oussaden valleys. We continue towards Tiziane (1750 m), a picturesque village with red terraces, where we spend the night in a traditional house or a tent camp, surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains.

After a traditional breakfast, we head towards the Assif n’Ait Oussaden valley. The road takes us through walnut orchards, where locals greet us with friendly smiles. We ascend to the Tizi n’Taghrhourte pass (1995 m), from where the view is breathtaking. We continue towards the Assaka spring, where we enjoy a picnic in the heart of nature.

In the afternoon, we descend through forests and agricultural terraces to the village of D’knt (1870 m), where a traditional dinner awaits us, and we spend the night in a Berber family’s home. The authentic atmosphere and Berber hospitality make this experience unforgettable.

We start early, ascending through walnut orchards and cereal terraces. Along the way, we meet shepherds who show us their simple and authentic way of life. We cross the Tizi n’Tagdalte pass, where we stop at a refreshing spring for a picnic. Then, we descend along winding paths, passing through juniper forests, until we reach the Azib Tamsoult valley (2300 m). Here, we set up our tents for the night, surrounded by mountains and tranquility. Under the starry sky, we will enjoy a dinner prepared by our guides.

Today’s journey begins with a challenging ascent to the Aguelzim Pass (3560 m). Along the way, we pass by the Ighouliden waterfalls and stop for lunch with a spectacular view of the Atlas mountain range. We arrive at the base of Mount Toubkal, where we settle into the Neltner or Mouflon refuge, alongside other adventurers preparing for the final ascent.

We wake up early to ascend the highest peak in North Africa, Toubkal (4167 m). The climb is demanding, but the views of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert are truly breathtaking. After celebrating the triumph of reaching the summit, we descend back to the base of the mountain and continue towards Imlil. The transfer to Marrakech marks the end of a day full of accomplishments.

After the mountain adventures, we enjoy a day of relaxation and exploration in Marrakech. A local guide takes us through the labyrinth of streets in the Medina, where we discover museums, souks full of handicrafts, and the vibrant Jamaa el Fna Square. The afternoon is free to enjoy the city at our own pace.

On the last day, we enjoy one final breakfast at the riad before transferring to the airport. We depart with our hearts full of memories, breathtaking landscapes, and authentic experiences that will stay in our souls forever.

This program is accessible even for adventurers with a medium level of physical fitness. However, it’s good to be accustomed to hiking on rough terrain, including gravel paths or routes with significant elevation differences.

For the ascent to Mt. Toubkal (4,167 m), some mountain experience is needed to handle a medium-difficulty hike at altitude (the route is not technical, but requires endurance).
